Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding. This is a wonderful and exciting time for not only the couple but the whole family.

Marriage in the context of faith is a demonstration of the deep trust, relationship and love between the couple and their relationship with God. A decision to be married is a true blessing for a couple, their families and friends, the community and for the whole Church.

God who is love and who created man and woman for love has called them to love. By creating man and woman he called them to an intimate communion of life and of love in marriage: “So that they are no longer two, but one flesh” (Matthew 19:6). God said to them in blessing “Be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28).

Since Matrimony establishes spouses in a public state of life in the Church, its liturgical celebration is public, taking place in the presence of a priest (or of a witness authorized by the Church) and other witnesses.

Weddings are generally celebrated in the Parish Church of one of the spouses but may also be held at Sts. J. Vianney & T. More Parish. Our Parish is very welcoming towards any couple who would like to be married in our beautiful church.

The Catholic Church is able to solemnize and bless marriages according to the Rites of Roman Catholic Church. At least one of the couple needs be a Catholic, and both need to be free to marry within the Catholic Church, according to both Church and Civil Law.

In order to secure a desired date, venue and officiating celebrant, and in order to adequately prepare for the day, please begin the process of contacting our parish at least 6 months prior to your desired wedding day.

You will need to contact our Parish Secretary calling at (02) 97596263 or emailing at secretary@sjv.org.au enquiring about a possible date, venue and time. And you will receive a list of terms and conditions for your acceptance.

You will then need to complete a booking form that needs to be returned to the Office as soon as possible. Should circumstances change and cancellation is necessary, this must be done as early as possible.

Once a date and acceptance has been secured, the secretary will send you the necessary forms to be completed prior to making an appointment with the celebrant of your marriage.

The priest is both witness for the Church and for the State.

Certain documentation is required – the essential items being a Birth Certificate and a Baptismal Certificate. The latter must be less than six months old. Also, your driver’s licence or passport (photo id) will be required.

Couples will be required to attend a recognised premarital education course, usually one conducted under the auspices of Centacare. A certificate showing the completion of the marriage preparation course would need to be provided.
